Preamble

The Pacific Art Group, founded May 24, 1973, is an association of artists who have banded together with the intent that, by the nurturing of their mutual interest in art in a social environment, individual members will benefit by improving their artistic skills and knowledge.

By-laws

Article I. General Membership Meetings

A. General membership meetings will be held quarterly in May, August, November and February.

Article II. Fiscal Period

A. The fiscal period will be one year and will begin May 1 and terminate April 30 each year.

Article III. Executive Officers

A. Executive officers will consist of a President, a Vice President, a Secretary and a Treasurer.

B. Each year, at the general membership meeting held in February, the President will appoint a committee which will, in turn, appoint the executive officers who will serve for the next one year term.

C. The newly appointed executive officers will be installed at the quarterly general membership meeting in May and they will serve until the quarterly meeting in May of the following year.

D. In the event that the presidency is vacated for any reason, the Vice President will assume the presidency and the preceding Past President will assume the vice presidency.

Article IV. Membership

A. Membership is limited to 32 members.

Article V. Membership Conditions

A.     Members must maintain membership in the Palos Verdes Art Center.

B.     The amount of the annual dues is specified in the Pacific Art Group Guidelines.  The dues are payable during the first quarter, May through July.  Members who have not paid their dues prior to the end of July will be notified and given a thirty day grace period.  New members’ dues will be proportionate to the number of quarters remaining in the fiscal year at the time he or she is accepted for membership.

C.    Each member is encouraged to:

1.     Participate by maintaining regular attendance at paint-outs.

2.     Participate by exhibition of art work.

3.     Attend social functions.

D.    Each member is expected to:

1.     Contribute to the group during the year in a substantial manner, perhaps as an officer, through work on committees or hosting events.

2.      Attend quarterly meetings. A member must attend at least 2 business meetings per year to remain a “Pacific Arts Group member in good standing”, which is required to enter PVAC shows and participate in Malaga Cove lawn shows. This requirement may be relaxed if there are extenuating circumstances.

3.     Support fellow members and group activities.

E.     Procedure for admitting members

1.     Sponsoring member notifies the President of the name, address and phone number of the prospective member.

2.     Sponsoring member advises the prospective member about the waiting list.

3.     Prospective member must attend three group activities, within a 6 month period, before consideration of membership.

4.     After completion of item 3 above, prospective member will have three art works juried by a jury committee appointed by the President.  This jury must include the Membership Chairman and two Past Presidents.

5.     The Membership Chairman will present a copy of the Membership Conditions segment of the by-laws to the prospective member.

6.     The prospective member’s name will be placed on the waiting list.

7.     The President will notify the prospective member when an opening is available.

8.     Former members on inactive or honorary status will receive priority for re-admittance.

F. Inactive status

1. Since membership is limited to thirty two, members are expected to actively participate by following the by-laws (see section V. Membership Conditions sub-section D and E). Failure to comply may result in the following actions at the discretion of the Executive Officers:

a. At the end of a three month period, the member will be contacted by the President personally or by phone and requested to follow the bylaws.

b. Failure to respond by the end of a thirty day period will result in a written notice that the member has been placed on an inactive list.

c. Inactive members do not participate, pay dues or remain on the rolls. Inactive members do receive priority for reinstatement.

G. Honorary Membership

1. Honorary (formerly called Associate) memberships may be added to the roster over and above the thirty two members. The executive officers shall determine eligibility for this category, based on extenuating circumstances. An honorary member:

a. Pays annual dues, an amount specified in the Pacific Art Group Guidelines.

b. May not vote.

c. May attend paint-outs and social functions

d. May not hold office

e. Will receive party invitations, yearly membership updates and phone contact information by mail and/or email

f. Must be reviewed annually by the executive officers

Article VI. Amendment of the By-laws

A. The by-laws may be amended only by an affirmative vote of not less than seventy five percent (75%) of the total membership and further that this amendment provision shall not be amended to allow amendments by a vote of less than seventy five percent (75%) of the total membership
